Nota de caja: recorded live at El Más Allá on October 2, 2026. Part 1 of 4, the start of the night.
The first of four sides from one night. Lado 004 — Tierra Prometida runs about 82 minutes, with 21 tracks listed below. It starts in Latin jazz and salsa, moves through funk, spiritual jazz, Ethio-jazz, Brazil and jazz-funk, and ends back in Latin jazz with Irakere.
How this side moves
Jerry Gonzalez’s Evidence and Eddie Palmieri’s Helado De Chocolate set a Latin jazz pulse early, and Willie Colon and Hector Lavoe’s Qué Lío tips it into salsa.
Then the funk: Harvey Mason’s Till You Take My Love, Peter Brown, and Crown Heights Affair’s Far Out. Alice Coltrane & Pharoah Sanders’ Journey In Satchidananda slows it into spiritual jazz, and from there it travels: Mulatu Astatke, Gary Bartz, then Marcos Valle’s On Line.
Roy Ayers, Donald Byrd and The Blackbyrds keep it in jazz-funk, with Mulatu Astatke’s Yègellé Tezeta (My Own Memory) slipped in between. John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme, Pt. I – Acknowledgement is the long breath in the middle of the side.
Gal Costa’s Vatapá, Bronx River Parkway’s Song For Ray, Arthur Verocai’s Velho Parente and The O'Jays’ I Love Music carry the last stretch, and Irakere closes on Bacalao Con Pan.
Primer lado de cuatro, grabado en vivo en El Más Allá. La noche apenas arranca.
